In the first of a series of events focusing on the achievements of the last Labour Government and how they were delivered, we'll be hearing from Tessa Jowell, one of the leading architects of Sure Start.
Sure Start centres marked a new chapter in Labour's fight for social justice. By bringing together education, health, social and parenting services under one roof, SureStart centres aimed to tackle inequality at its root - in childhood - by ensuring that no child, no matter their background, had a decent start in life.
And that's all very well, but how was it actually delivered? Tessa Jowell, who as Secretary of State played a key role in delivering the policy, will be giving us the inside story, outlining the thinking behind the policy, the web of ministerial relationships and networks that it took to deliver it, and all the other factors that it takes to deliver policy in a Labour Government.
Join us for what should be a fascinating and popular event.
