Join us for the Young Fabians first event in Parliament of 2018 with Lord Roy Kennedy and Assembly Member Tom Copley where we will be looking at Housing Policy in Local Government.
7pm - 9pm Tuesday February 6th
Committee Room 1, Houses of Parliament,
Housing is one of the largest and most pronounced problems in modern times in the UK for young people. The costs are being driven up, the quality is being driven down and most tenants are at the mercy of unscrupulous landlords and managing agents. Local Government has a big part to play in building more homes and in managing and regulating the market, but in a time when budgets are stretched how can this be done effectively?
This meeting will be an interactive policy presentation and debate on what is currently being done in Local Government to help young people get a decent affordable roof over their head. The event will form the basis of the Housing section in a project being undertaken by the Young Fabian Committee Member for Local Government Policy Adam Allnutt.
Speakers will include Lord Roy Kennedy, Councillor in Lewisham and Shadow Spokesperson for Communities and Local Government, Tom Copley AM, Housing Spokesperson for the Labour Group on the Assembly, Marian Craig, Young Fabians Local Government Network, Cllr Alison Butler, Cabinet Member for Homes, Regeneration & Planning for Croydon Council and Abdi Duale, London Young Labour.
