This year we have run a host of events focusing on the barriers women face in acquiring the top positions in a range of industries and how we break through this glass ceiling, as well as running workshops to provide the skills women need to take the lead.
In August, we will be offering a special workshop where Young Fabian women can come along to learn about running to be a Labour Councillor. We are lucky to be joined by three fantastic and inspirational women who have all successfully run for council seats across London, including:
Cllr Reema Patel who represents Coppetts Ward, London Borough of Barnet
Cllr Farah Hussein who represents Valentines Ward, London Borough of Redbridge
Cllr Abena Oppong-Asare who represents Erith Ward, London Borough of Bexley
Over the course of the evening, you will learn about the processes involved in running to be a Labour Councillor, the experiences of women running for election and ways in which the challenges faced by women running for political positions can be combated, as well as top tips about taking the plunge and putting yourselves forward.
Those of you who have attended our workshops before, know it is a great opportunity to meet other young women in a relaxed and informal environment, and this evening will be no different! It is set to be an incredibly informative, empowering evening so do join us - whether you're considering this as an option now or in the future or just want to learn more about becoming a Councillor generally, come and learn from those who have already made the journey.
If you would like further information, do get in touch. We look forward to seeing you there!
