2014 is a big year for the Labour Party. The local elections and the European Parliament elections will both happen on 22 May, and the Young Fabians have an important role to play in helping the Labour Party win across the country. Our challenge at the Young Fabians is to get organised and build a culture of campaigning.
On 12 March we launched the Young Fabians' Campaigns Programme.
On 22 March we started our campaign in Ilford North.
And on 5 April we take the campaign national. We're heading to the North West to help Labour win in Wirral West.
We will join our colleagues from Young Labour and Labour Students.
Make sure to RSVP and, if you're coming from outside of Wirral West, make sure to book your train tickets as soon as possible!
A group of Young Fabians from London will be meeting at Euston Station on 5 April at 6.45am to catch the 07:07 Virgin Train to Liverpool to arrive at 9.33am. We will start campaigning at 11am on 5 April and finish around 3pm on 6 April.
If you have any questions, please contact our Campaigns Officer, Alvin Carpio.

Wirral West was one of the most surprising Labour victories in 1997 and was a powerful symbol of the Conservatives’ long-term decline in Merseyside. The constituency is composed mostly of affluent suburbs such as West Kirby and Hoylake and had previously been regarded as a safe Tory seat. However, the Conservatives are still a force and have been consistently ahead in local elections; their local election vote in Wirral frequently outruns their general election performance, suggesting reasonably good organisation. The campaign amid the golf courses of the posh bit of Merseyside will be an important one for Labour’s hopes of a majority.
The candidate: Margaret Greenwood (@MGreenwoodWW)Margaret Greenwood has been selected to take on Esther McVey in Wirral West at the General Election. Following her selection, Greenwood said:
“I am delighted to have been selected as the Labour candidate to be Wirral West’s next MP and would like to thank the Labour Party members.Campaigning for the NHS, I know exactly how this Tory-led Government is dismantling this most prized institution. I will work hard for the repeal of their privatising NHS bill. I look forward to meeting more people of Wirral West on the doorstep and listening to their views. I’ll always do what is best for Wirral West.”
Greenwood is a web consultant and has taught in schools, colleges and adult education centres in the local area. She has lived in Liverpool for over 20 years and is a founder member of Defend our NHS.
