Join the Young Fabians BAME Advocacy Group for our second event back in person at Fabian Society HQ! We will also be livestreaming this event.
Keir Starmer was elected as Leader of the Labour Party in April 2020, pledging to "tear out this poison [of antisemitism] by its roots and judge success by the return of Jewish members and those who felt that they could no longer support us."
Over 18 months into his leadership, how successful has Starmer been in truly rooting out the problem of antisemitism in the Labour Party that so plagued his predecessor? Many of the Labour Party's processes have been reformed, drawing controversy and criticism from Jeremy Corbyn (suspended from the Labour whip) and many of his supporters. But beyond the headlines, has the culture of Labour changed? Is the party a more welcoming place for Jews?
Joining the discussion will be our fantastic panel:
Luisa Attfield - Co-Youth and Students Officer of the Jewish Labour Movement and member of the London Young Labour Executive Committee
Councillor Joshua Garfield - Stratford Labour Councillor, former Labour candidate for Braintreee and member of the Jewish Labour Movement NEC
Miriam Mirwitch - Jewish Labour Movement Trade Union Officer, Former Chair of Young Labour and former Labour London Assembly Candidate.
Stephen Bush - Political Editor of the New Statesman, Political Writer in Residence at Sussex University and Chair of the Board of Deputies of British Jews' Commission on Racial Inclusivity
This event will be chaired by the Chair of the Young Fabians BAME Advocacy Group, Henry Mendoza.
