Come and join the Young Fabians in Southampton as we discuss how the council are innovating in the face austerity in collaboration with the Southampton Fabians.

Entry to the Church is via the glass doors at the front of the building.

“Southampton City Council has experienced a significant reduction in funding per head of population since 2011.

We want Southampton to be a modern and attractive city where children and young people get a good start in life, people can live safe, healthy and independent lives and people are proud to live and work. The council’s transformation journey started in 2015 with a strong focus on outcomes, customer experiences, commercialisation and continuous improvement and performance to implement the Council Strategy 2016 -2020.

We are increasingly recognised for many aspects of our work including working with health on integration, having a proactive role in sub regional activity on devolution and building our national reputation on skills.”

We’re delighted to have four city council cabinet members presenting a discussion on the subject of Innovation Under Fire: A Study of Innovation in Local Government Policy, with an emphasis on the impact on young voters, but open to members and supporters of all ages.

• Cllr Mark Chaloner - Cabinet Member for Finance
• Cllr Christopher Hammond - Cabinet Member for Sustainable Living
• Cllr Satvir Kaur - Cabinet Member for Communities, Culture and Leisure
• Cllr Dr Darren Paffey - Cabinet Member for Education and Skills

Each will talk about what has been done to keep essential services running and innovations against a background of some of the most difficult spending rounds in the history of local government, followed by a discussion.

Please note this is an additional event to 13th March, and continues a broad theme of local government innovation amidst financial pressures in Southampton.

Non-members are welcome to attend and contribute to the discussion, as always. A one-off donation of £2 is suggested to help cover the costs of refreshments and room hire.
