Background
The Young Fabians One Nation Ideas Series project on internationalism will explore how we can create a strong, coherent narrative on Britain’s place in the world that is relevant to the doorstep, and look to reignite a passion for internationalism within the Labour Party.
It aims to explore how a number of themes fit within our conception of a One Nation Labour Party and can contribute to our narrative in the run up to the general election in 2015.
There are no shortage of foreign policy and international issues affecting the UK – from the crises in Syria and Ukraine, EU reform, our military drawdown in Afghanistan, trade cooperation to deliberation of the future of global development policy at the UN.
However, in these times of austerity, foreign affairs issues and robust debate on Britain’s place in the world have largely taken a back seat to domestic issues.
The Ideas Series is being hosted in collaboration with the Durham University Labour Club and will culminate in a chapter in a Young Fabian pamphlet, which will be launched at Labour Party Conference 2014.
How do I get involved?
This event is an opportunity to involve those with a personal or professional interest in internationalism and foreign affairs.
At this event, we will discuss various internationalism themes and issues, shaped by what you're interested in, which will feed into the final publication. Please RSVP beforehand: we will dispatch an information pack to you before the event takes place with some resources and guiding questions, so the discussion is full and fruitful when the event takes place.
We look forward to seeing you there!
