With thousands of pupils being educated in schools deemed by Ofsted to 'require improvement', there is a need to continue to focus on improving our country's underperforming schools. As a panacea for all these problems, the Government has targeted so-called 'coasting schools', forcibly turning many into academies. But is academisation the right and sole answer to delivering better outcomes for our children?
Join the Young Fabians Education Network and Education Select Committee member Ian Mearns MP to discuss the Government's reliance on academisation, and explore alternative methods of school improvement.
Speakers will include:
- Ian Mearns MP, Education Select Committee member
- Cllr Anntoinette Bramble, Portfolio lead member for Children's Services at Hackney Council
- Graeme Duncan, CEO of Right to Succeed
- James O'Connell Lauder, Assistant Principal at Ark Elvin Academy (part of the ARK academy chain)
The discussion will be chaired by Jay Allan (Young Fabians Education Network Steering Committee Member).
