The trials and troubles of today's Labour Party are echoed across Europe in 2015. Only ten of the EU's twenty-eight heads of Government come from the left, and even where Socialists are in power in many places they are facing huge obstacles, from the rise of the populist right to trying to protect social programmes in an age of austerity.
Many feel the European left needs a new paradigm and new energy. But there may, perhaps, be springs of recovery. The recent outcry in support of refugees from the Syrian conflict has shown that the people of Europe are still open to feelings of solidarity and hope.
Join the Young Fabians International Network for a roundtable event on the state and future of European Social Democracy as we discuss how we as Europeans can once more harness hope into political action.
The event will be held from 11:45am – 01:00pm on Tuesday 29th September at the Lancing Suite Holiday Inn Brighton Seafront, 137 King’s Road, Brighton BN1 2JF.
