Get involved in one of the Young Fabians' policy networks this summer. Each is an informal group of young people who meet together to network, to discuss and debate issues in their policy area, organise events, produce publications, and build links with the key organisations and individuals in their sector.

Anyone can join, and the first step is signing up here, so we can keep you updated with the latest events and opportunities.

What do we do about a curriculum that fails to prepare students for living and working in society? What needs to happen to increase the number of apprenticeships? How can we close the attainment gap? And how do we pay for it all?

The Young Fabians Education Network brings together teachers, students and young professionals working in education to discuss the big challenges facing British education. It aims to become a go-to place for those on the left who are interested in contributing to the debate.

The Education Network Steering Committee

The International Network promotes an ethical foreign policy with human rights, security and peace at its heart. 

We work to play a key role in influencing international policy debates with regular events on some of the most pressing global issues; from the protests in Hong Kong and the Israel-Palestine conflict to the growing threat of nationalism and populism.

Introduction

2014 is a big year for the Labour Party. The local elections and the European Parliament elections will both happen on 22 May, and the Young Fabians have an important role to play in helping the Labour Party win across the country. In addition, the Scottish Referendum takes places on 18 September - we would like to play our part in keeping Great Britain together.

Our challenge at the Young Fabians is to get organised and build a culture of campaigning. Starting now, we hope to build a campaigning culture to help Labour win this year, in the General Election next year, and the London Mayoral Election in 2016.

That is why we have created a Young Fabians’ Campaigns Programme. This year's Campaigns Programme is an opportunity for all members: some will be veteran campaigners who can share their experience, while others will see it as an opportunity get more campaigning experience - both are integral to helping Labour win.

With the general election fast approaching, now is the time to flesh out our vision for 2015. This is the last chance to really impact the choices of the next Labour government, and we believe that it is important that Young Fabians make their voices heard.

With this in mind, our research project for 2014 is an ideas series on One Nationism – and we’d like you to get involved.

These projects are led by Young Fabian members who successfully pitched during an open application process in early 2014. Each of these research projects will include different ways to get involved for members up and down the country.

Most Young Fabians were in their teens when New Labour came to power twelve years ago. Many were still at primary school. We are a generation whose formative political years have been spent under a Labour government. Much has been achieved in that time – including the national minimum wage, vital investment in education and the National Health Service and policies to help society turn the corner on inequality and life chances – but much is left still to do, and we must be the generation to do it. Our society continues to be one in which four million children live in poverty. Over 60,000 young workers under 22 earn less than the minimum wage in jobs with limited prospects of progression.

It is our generation that must pick up the tab for a 200-year old carbon legacy and it is we who must seek to re-invigorate democracy both at home and internationally to find just solutions to manifold injustices. If we are to have any hope of addressing these and other challenges, we must move the progressive agenda forward, and fast.
