The Young Fabian International Policy Group and the Fabian Communications Network have partnered up to bring you an event which tackles the international threat to democracies; fake news.

Covid-19 isn’t the only thing running rampant around the globe; as the head of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus proclaimed: “We’re not just fighting an epidemic; we’re fighting an infodemic,” referring to the rampant spread of misinformation.

As major digital platforms create fact checking campaigns and product updates aimed at limiting the tide of fake news, various civil groups and some governments have sought to stem the tied through other various initiatives.

The spread of disinformation still continues however, and this discussion will seek to analyse the efficacy of these initiatives in combating the spread of disinformation to date, the challenges and limitations in tackling disinformation in general, as well as potential solutions that could be employed in this fight against fake news.
