This is the first event of the environmentalism project, part of the Young Fabians' One Nation Ideas Series.

We will be joined by Melanie Smallman, who is co-chair of SERA – Labour's Environmental Campaign

The project objectives are to:

  1. Explore the potential overlap between local community initiatives associated with environmental movements.
  2. Discuss the potential benefits of utilising these initiatives.
  3. Analyse these initiatives and their theoretical base in relation to the key principles and suggested aims of one nation ideas outlined by Ed Miliband and in the collection of essays in One Nation power, hope, community.

In this first meeting the focus will be upon social justice and environmentalism. Can we develop a theory of environmental justice? Is this distinct from social justice or should it form part of the wider narrative? Has environmentalism changed the concept of “citizenship”? How does environmentalism fit into the One Nation idea?

If you have any questions, please do get in touch. We hope to see you on 31 May.
