CLM.7.02, Clement House, London School of Economics, London WC2A 2AE - Kristian Niemitz, the Poverty Scholar from the free-market think tank the Institute of Economic Affairs - Nick Maxwell, Vice-Chair of the Young Fabians. This past summer, several London boroughs experienced looting, arson and riots that lasted over several days and spread to other parts of the country. It did not take long before politicians from all sides of the spectrum quickly appeared on television and radio to provide their own insight into solutions and reasons behind such violent behavior. Arguments covered all aspects from the spending cuts, the policing, and even the level of punishments.
The Young Fabians and the Hayek Society (LSE), are interested in providing a forum for this debate and have organised “London Riots : A Debate on the Causes and Solutions”. Kristian Niemitz, the Poverty Scholar from the free-market think tank the Institute of Economic Affairs, and Nick Maxwell, Vice-Chair of the Young Fabians will both set out perspectives on the causes and solutions before entering into a debate with participants. In what promises to be a heated debate, the Young Fabians are delighted to host this event with the Hayek Society and expose all perspectives to the challenges and critique we need to find solutions to violence and disengagement in our communities.
