Claire Leigh
Vice Chair
I’m honoured to be elected Vice Chair of the Young Fabians. As Vice Chair I will coordinate our activities and policy output to have maximum impact. I also hope to continue to make the YFs more open, members-led and democratic as an organisation. This is my fifth year on the executive. My priorities as Vice Chair will be to: • Continue to champion YF reform. I hope to continue to drive change in the way we operate by making us more transparent and accessible. • Provide coordination and oversight of YF activity (including the policy commissions, events, our published output and other activities) to ensure coherence, cross-working and to support this year’s central policy theme of intergenerational equity. • Provide quality assurance for our policy work. I will support the exec to produce high quality policy outputs by providing guidance, editing end products and giving advice. Originally from Kent, I am an advisor on government strategy and reform. For the past two years I have worked for Tony Blair's Africa Governance Initiative (AGI), providing advice and support to the Presidents of Liberia and Rwanda. Before joining AGI, I was a Senior Policy Advisor in Gordon Brown's Strategy Unit, where I worked on international policy as well as social and economic issues. I have also worked for the Foreign Office, the Overseas Development Institute, for UNICEF in New York and as a strategy consultant at Deloitte. I’m on the executive committee of the Fabian Women's Network, and am an active member of 85 Broads, Young Professionals in Foreign Policy, the Labour Women's Network and a range of charities in the UK. I write for various leading blogs including LSE's Inequalities, Left Foot Forward and Women's Views on News. I have an MPhil in International Relations from Oxford University and a BA in History from the University of Cambridge.
