Who we are:

Young Fabian Women is the feminist section of the Young Fabians. We aim to encourage more young women to get involved in politics. Through dedicated events, activities and publications we hope to create a strong network of like minded women and a platform to make their voices heard.

Founded in March 2010 by then Equalities Officer Marie-Noëlle Loewe, our efforts are already showing results: For the first time ever, 50% of the directly elected Young Fabian Executive is female. We have also held a series of exciting events over the past year and have just published our first pamphlet, Women’s Issues.

We are always keen to hear from people who are interested in getting involved or from organisations who feel our members would benefit from a partnership. To find out more please contact This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Women’s Issues: Young Fabian Women's first pamphlet launched
Edited by Claire Leigh and Marie-Noëlle Loewe, with a foreword by Oona King

Women's Issues is the inaugural pamphlet from Young Fabian Women, the feminist branch of the Young Fabians, and provides four of our most inspiring members with a platform to write about some of the key policy issues of our time, including the impact of cuts on young people, UK defence policy and party reform. Offering new insights and ideas on issues which have been dominated by male voices, it's clear Young Fabian Women have a lot to say. It's time we started listening.

The pamphlet is available to download here.

Panel debate: 9th March 2011-International Women’s Day-joined event with One World Action and VSO: “YF Women welcome UN-Women”
Wednesday 9th March, 6.30-8pm, Committee Room 10, Houses of Parliament

In conjunction with One World Action, Young Fabian Women celebrated the launch of UN Women, the first UN women’s agency, established earlier this year after 40 years of campaigning across the globe.

On the 100th anniversary of the first International Women’s Day, we discussed the challenges, opportunities and priorities for the new agency with a panel of experts including: Rushanara Ali MP, Hannah Davis (OWA), Glenys Kinnock (TBC), Kathy Peach (VSO) and Emily Sikazwe (Women for Change, Zambia). Both men and women were welcome of course.

Panel Event: 15th June 2010 Young Fabian Women: “Learning Lessons from The Election” Q&A session
Tuesday 15th June, 6.45-8.30pm, Wilson Room, Portcullis House, Westminster

Following the election this event for women, held under Chatham house rules, shared insider lessons and tips from a range of women who had stood to be MPs and councillors and some who had been successful, others who hadn’t. In line with the Young Fabian Women mission, the event aimed to inform women members of factors for success in standing for public office, as well as insight into particular experiences that women as well as ethnic minority women specifically, may face, and strategies for negotiating and overcoming these. The event followed mainly an informal question and answer format and included Tulip Siddiq - Labour Cabinet Member, Camden Council, Pamela Nash, Young Fabian Exec member at the time and Labour MP for Aidrie and Shotts and Rebecca Rennison also a Young Fabian Exec member at the time who stood unsuccessfully as a Labour Prospective Parliamentary Candidate (PPC) for South West Wiltshire.
