James Green
Editor, Anticipations
This is James' fourth year on the Young Fabian executive committee and second as editor of the Young Fabians quarterly magazine, Anticipations. Last year James drove through a number of notable innovations including redesigning the magazine and producing the first ever colour and online editions. James is always looking for ways to make Anticipations even better. If you have any ideas for new sections, features or topics, he wants to hear from you.
Last year James also established the online Young Fabian Candidates Network to provide a space for Labour parliamentary and council candidates to collaborate, share ideas and best practice and ask any questions that they had. It proved popular during the General Election period, growing to nearly 10% of Labour’s PPCs. In October 2009 the network published a pamphlet with reflections from twelve young PPCs on the future of Labour. Read The New Progressives: Future of Progressive Politics by clicking here.
In his first year on the Young Fabian executive James re-established the Young Fabians schools project. He overhauled the project, launching a national youth consultation in schools across the country. This proved successful with nearly 600 young people of all ages taking part. The consultation winners were invited to Parliament to share their ideas with MPs and ministers.
James is active in the Labour movement. He is a Fabian Society executive member, CLP Secretary and Labour school governor. He stood as a Parliamentary Candidate at the last General Election. James currently works for an education charity, developing and implementing a new type of state school model. James formerly ran a youth organisation and headed up the Westminster Office of a Labour MP.
