Social Officer

This is Richard’s second year on the Young Fabian executive, having previously taken the position of Officer without Portfolio. During his first year on the executive he helped organise a number of events including securing a special weekend of guest editing the LabourList blog, an ‘In Conversation Event’ between Oona King and Lord Kinnock, co-ordinating the Young Fabian presence at both the Progress and Compass Annual Conferences and the first Young Fabian pub quiz of 2010.

As Social Officer Richard is aiming to hold more frequent events to bring together Young Fabian members; this will include gatherings around major Fabian Society events, such as the New Year Conference, the ever popular Young Fabian Summer Boat Party, the Young Fabian Annual Dinner and, working with the Regional Officer, a greater focus on events across the country.

Outside of the Young Fabians Richard also works for the Fabian Society as an Events Manager where he has focused on issues around employment policy, the future of the European Union, environmental policy and health and inequality.

Prior to joining the Fabian Society in November 2008 Richard worked as a Deputy Field Organiser on Barack Obama’s presidential campaign. He has previously worked for the Cabinet Office, as a Campaign Associate on the presidential campaign of Hillary Clinton and as a research assistant in the Westminster office of Rt. Hon Yvette Cooper MP.

Richard has a BSc in Politics and International Relations and an MSc in Global Security from the University of Southampton.

Richard is also active in his Streatham CLP, a Unite trade union member and a member of the National Executive of LGBT Labour.
