Preth Rao
Membership Involvement Officer
Preth works as Head of Policy and Research at the Local Government Ombudsman. Prior to this she worked in equalities policy, leading on local government, participation, cohesion and leadership issues for the Commission for Racial Equality and Equality and Human Rights Commission. Preth is also a board member of a Housing Association in her spare time. She has been on the Young Fabian Executive for two previous terms, as the first Equalities Officer and then as Secretary. This year she intends to continue with her role of encouraging greater participation and involvement from members all over the country. This is a strategic priority for the executive this year and a big challenge but one that Preth feels passionate about. If you have specific ideas please contact her. In addition, if you have an area of particular interest and expertise let Preth know as she is creating a database of interests and expertise of those YF members who want to be more actively involved in the organisation by writing articles and leading in organising their own events as well as in other ways. This year Preth will work on enhancing the policy outputs of the Young Fabians by building ties more closely between Young Academics and the Young Fabians, bridging the gap between academia and policy and politics and in turns bringing membership benefits by ensuring members are better appraised of recent research on progressive issues. If you would like to be part of the Young Fabian Young Academics Network which will be an informal group of people please get in touch.
